🔍 About the project
TABADOL was a series of cultural and linguistic exchange events that invited participants to explore the often-overlooked cultural meanings behind words, expressions and traditions. The initiative created inclusive spaces where migrants, refugees and host-community members came together to share language, dance and music in Barcelona.
🎯 Main objectives
- To foster intercultural understanding and dialogue between migrant/refugee communities and local residents.
- To provide opportunities for migrants and refugees to share their cultures and stories through interactive experiences.
- To build community-led events that emphasise belonging, creativity and exchange.
🧠 Kudwa’s role
Kudwa led and organised the TABADOL events — creating workshops, coordinating language and culture sessions, and hosting interactive gatherings around themes such as “Music”, “Dance”, “Drinks”, “History and Geography” and “Women”. By centring migrant and refugee voices, Kudwa ensured the project was truly community-driven.
🌍 Activities & Highlights
- The “Music”-themed exchange session, where participants explored the cultural roots and narratives of different musical traditions between the orient and the west.
- The “Dance” session, which brought to focus different dances through out the Arab world and also different regions in Spain.
- The “History” session, highlighted the influences of the different colonizations and civilizations that passed through the Arab World and Spain.
- The “Women” session, held on the occasion of International Women’s Day, highlighted some of the skills within the women migrant community – to inspire others and celebrate them together.
🌍 Impact
TABADOL strengthened community connections, elevated migrant and refugee participants as culture-bearers and created inclusive events that bridged cultures. Participants reported deeper understanding of each other’s traditions and increased confidence to share their own cultural stories.
