Georges Azzi

Georges Azzi, a prominent human rights activist, founded Helem and AFE, advocating LGBTI rights in MENA while consulting for global initiatives on social inclusion and policy reform.

Georges Azzi is a human rights activist and strategist recognised for his work in defending the rights of LGBTI people in the Middle East and North Africa. He founded Helem, the first LGBTI organisation in Lebanon, and the Arab Foundation for Freedoms and Equality (AFE), the leading regional sexual rights organisation in MENA. His efforts have received international recognition, including awards such as the “celebration of courage award”.

Georges is currently the LGBTI focal point at Kudwa and works as a consultant for the World Bank, supporting global initiatives in social inclusion and policy analysis. His work encompasses global advocacy, legal reform and research, especially on mental health and drug use within LGBTI communities.
